When I began to write a prologue to this story, I was not
pleased
with my initial efforts. Upon revising, I soon discovered that
the
best way to write it was to use a modified film trailer format. I
realize that it does not follow the proper format used by
professional
screenwriters, but it suits my purpose for the moment.
I suggest that you read "Town and Gown", this
story's prequel,
before reading this. I have set some events in motion that
directly
affect the plot--and I'm such a purist, I have to be a stickler
about order.
Standard disclaimers apply. Harry Potter, all related
characters,
and various media incarnations are copyright of the very talented
J. K. Rowlings, Scholastic, and other international companies
involved in its creation and distribution. Will Stanton and
"The
Dark Is Rising" series are both copyright of the wonderful
Susan Cooper.

[Black screen. Thin grey mist drifts across it, wreathing and
coiling like smoke]
[From the darkness, a man's deep VOICE
speaks, reciting in an almost
sing-song tone the words of a prophecy we know so well....]
MAN'S VOICE [VO]:
When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back....
[The mist completely covers the screen, then fades to reveal a
long
shot of the imposing, majestic towers of Hogwarts Academy. It is
early morning, and the sun is just rising]
[Zoom in, slowly at first, then gaining speed until we are
almost
flying straight into the building, into the Gryffindor tower,
into
the boys' dormitory, stopping with an abrupt halt at the foot of
one
of the beds]
[HARRY POTTER suddenly sits bolt upright in
bed. His face is
very pale, and he is sweating. His scar is faintly visible behind
a few
stray strands of hair]
MAN'S VOICE [VO]:
Three from the circle, three from the track....
[HARRY gets out of bed and quickly begins to dress]
[Pan to RON WEASLEY, who stumbles out of bed
and sleepily puts on
his clothes. In the background, we can see NEVILLE
LONGBOTTOM
dressing as well]
[Simultaneous split screen--corridor outside Gryffindor girls'
dormitory.
HERMIONE GRANGER stands outside a closed wooden
door,
holding her lit wand in one hand as she impatiently checks her
watch.
The door opens a crack, and GINNY WEASLEY
tiptoes out. She
is fully dressed]
[Moving shot, walking down the stairs leading to the
Gryffindor common
room. Standing at the foot of the stairs is COLIN CREEVEY.
He is
biting his lip, unsuccessfully trying to hide his nervousness]
MAN'S VOICE [VO]:
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone....
[Moving shot of HARRY, RON, NEVILLE,
HERMIONE, GINNY,
and COLIN striding purposefully down one of the
halls of Hogwarts.
HARRY is in the front centre, RON
at his left, HERMIONE at his right.
GINNY walks behind RON, COLIN
behind HARRY, NEVILLE
behind HERMIONE. Their faces are set, very
determined]
MAN'S VOICE [VO]:
Five shall return, and one go alone....
[Cut to HARRY'S POV. He approaches a closed
door, which slowly
swings open to reveal a small room, lit only by a fire in the
grate. A
dark figure, back to the camera, is bending over the fire, poking
at it
with a long-handled poker. As the camera approaches, the figure
gives the fire a final jab with the poker, straightens up, and
turns to
face the camera]
[It is a tall man, approximately in his mid-thirties. We catch
a
glimpse of a round face, framed by brown hair, half in shadow.
The rest of his body is concealed by a cloak that blends into the
dim light of the room. The man bows slightly, then raises his
head,
looking directly into the camera with a disconcerting effect.
When
he speaks, his voice is the same one that had recited the lines
of
the prophecy]
WILL STANTON [quietly]:
Ah, Mr. Potter. Shall we go?
[Immediate fade to black]
[Titles fade in on screen]
--HARRY POTTER AND THE LEGACY OF THE LIGHT--
--COMING SOON--
[Fade out]
